The capital city of Reykjavik is picturesque, walkable, and clean. With plenty of hotels close to the city center to choose from.
Quaint and colorful houses line the streets. Cafés, restaurants, and shops to suit all tastes and budgets.
Take a guided walking tour through town. Visit it's many historical and cultural museums, or go whale watching.
Take the elevator to the top of Hallgrímskirkja at 244 ft high, it is the largest church in Iceland and among the tallest structures in the country. With views of the entire city.
Dip into the thermal baths and feel the heat, even when the outside temperature is frigid. This is what the locals do.
Take a day trip to see Þingvellir National Park, where the longest-running parliament was established at the site in 930 A.D. Experience the Gullfoss waterfall, and Geysir. In a twenty passenger bus with an English speaking tour guide and food stops along the way.
Visit the South Coast of Iceland passing through small villages and traveling past lava fields, mountains, and glaciers. Visit the Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss waterfalls, the Solheimajokull glacier, and the black sand beach of Reynisfjara. You will see large basalt column cliffs and stunning sea stacks.
Or you could rent a car and travel the 830-milelong ring road that covers the entire island. Not for the faint of heart, or those in a rush. Give yourself plenty of time to stop and see the natural wonders along the way.
Hike into the interior and experience the mystical "eeriness" at the heart of this land. It will do you good.
Make sure to bring appropriate rain and hiking gear. The terrain can be rugged and rough going. The weather can be very variable and unpredictable.
Food and necessities tend to be much more expensive than the states and most folks use the plastic method of payment.
