Multi-Purpose Chick Pea Gravy Sauce

Looking for something out of the "ordinary" to spice up your plate?


Try this very simple sauce on for taste.


Fresh or canned Chick Peas (One can used here)

1/2 a lime or lemon squeezed

1/2 inch of fresh ginger

Pinch of cayenne pepper

prep time: 5 minutes


For fresh chickpeas, bring a pot of salted water to a boil, and add the peas. Cook until tender, about 3 to 5 minutes depending on how many there are and how fresh they are. Drain the chickpeas, and put them in cold water or run cold water over them to cool them off.


For canned chickpeas, I recommend draining and rinsing also.


Next decide if you want a complete puree like sauce, or if you would prefer to have some "chunks" in the sauce.


If you want the former, blend the peas until they turn to liquid. If the latter, I suggest that you blend half the quantity and then mix with the rest.


* I add the ginger and lemon with the skin when blending.




Spice it up by adding the lemon or lime, and ginger.


Here are some ideas of what you can serve this sauce with:


1. Pour over rice.

2. Slice a baked potato halfway, and pour in the sauce.

3. Use as a spread on rice cakes, bread, or pita bread.

4. Top your burger.

5. Dress up your salad.

6. Dip in the tortilla chips.


Don't be afraid to experiment a little. You might even surprise yourself with your own creation.
