Do you allow yourself to carry or latch unto other people's negative emotions?
A co-worker is having a bad day. The domino effect, and next thing you know, you are too.
What about covering up a mistake you made instead of owning up? Then the feelings of guilt seem to pile on because you did something wrong.
Do you sometimes feel as if you might be someone else's punching bag or spinning top? You just stand there when the person is raising their voice, maybe even saying profanities and verbally ranting?
You do not have to hold your ground, but you might need to take a stand.
Try saying this. "While I understand, you might be upset and I would like to help, I don't appreciate the way you are speaking right now."
How people choose to react or respond is not your responsibility. It is there's. Don't take it on. It's their baggage.
Take ownership of yourself, your actions, and your emotions. It is NOT wrong to have "negative feelings". It is what you do with them that makes the difference.
